The group was started in late 1998, organised by Richard Smith, Ken O'Shea and Bob Crawford. After a false start at another local club's room the current venue was found by Bob and we have used the same place since. By 2001 the name Western Union had been chosen and we became a division of the N.M.R.A. British Region. The membership has gone up and down over the years but the same persistant core of offenders still continue to turn up ! New members are always welcome though and despite being an N.M.R.A. group we do not require club members to belong to the N.M.R.A. and you will not be pressured to join. There are no membership requirements to the club as such, just turn up and enjoy yourself ! (Although it is much appreciated if you can either be there to help set up or take down the layout or even both if you are really keen !!!) To cover the cost of renting the rooms we charge £4 per person for each monthly meeting attended but your first visit is free (cos we're nice like that). The monthly meetings are very informal and we usually have two layouts set up. The rooms are 43' x 22' which takes the HO modular layout and 20' x 12' for the N scale modular layout. There is usually space available for other layouts but please contact us first to check on this before bringing one. Most of the club members are into DCC and we will be happy to give advice and demonstrate it to those that are interested. A newsletter is sent out several times a year to the club members and all N.M.R.A. members in Devon and Cornwall. If you would like any further information please contact either myself or Mike Ruby, who is also the area contact for the N.M.R.A.
